National Public Garden Day

National Public Gardens Day is an annual celebration of the nation’s public gardens to raise awareness of the important role botanical gardens and arboreta play in promoting environmental stewardship, plant and water conservation, green spaces, and education in communities nationwide.

Iowa public gardens promote healthy living, are places to celebrate cultural and life events, and are destinations to connect with nature. Entrance to your favorite Iowa public gardens is free on May 10. You can download your passes by visiting Better Homes and Garden website (BHG.com) where you will be directed to download a voucher for free admission to any participating public garden on National Public Gardens Day.

Member of the Gardens and Arboreta of Central Iowa’s 2013 promotion: Visit all five gardens and arboreta of central Iowa from May 10 to June 16, 2013, submit your stamped passport, and your name will be entered into a drawing for free event tickets at one of these locations. One grand prize winner will receive multiple event tickets.

Participating gardens are: The Brenton Arboretum, Reiman Garden,Iowa State University, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Better Homes and Gardens Test Garden and Iowa Arboretum.

Tours will be offered throughout the day at the Iowa Arboretum.
